Tripod Beta Bronze Analysis

Learn how to move beyond immediate causes and uncover the organisational factors that shape incidents.

This accredited three-day classroom course provides the knowledge, practical skills and structured approach needed to apply the Tripod Beta methodology to incident investigation.

Designed for HSE professionals, investigators and operational leaders, the course helps participants move beyond surface-level root cause analysis and develop a deeper understanding of how barriers, human behaviour and organisational factors contribute to incidents.

Throughout the course, you will work with practical cases and exercises that help you translate the methodology directly into your own working environment.

What you will learn

During the course, you will learn how to:

  • understand the principles and structure of the Tripod Beta methodology;

  • identify events, hazards, targets and barriers;

  • apply barrier thinking to incident investigation;

  • develop Tripod Beta Trios and causation paths;

  • identify preconditions and underlying causes;

  • work with Basic Risk Factors (BRFs);

  • examine human behaviour without stopping at labels such as ‘human error’;

  • build a structured Tripod Beta analysis;

  • develop findings and recommendations from the analysis;

  • communicate and present investigation findings effectively.

Course scope

The course takes participants through the core elements of a Tripod Beta analysis over three intensive classroom days.

  • Day 1 – Tripod Beta fundamentals

    Events, barriers and the principles of incident causation.

  • Day 2 – Building the Tripod Beta analysis

    Tripod Beta Trios, preconditions, underlying causes and Basic Risk Factors.

  • Day 3 – From analysis to findings

    Completing the analysis, developing recommendations, reporting and presenting investigation findings. The emphasis throughout the course is on understanding and applying the methodology rather than simply learning terminology.

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for professionals involved in investigating, reviewing or learning from incidents, including:

  • HSE Managers and Officers;

  • incident investigators and investigation team leaders;

  • operations and production managers;
